Just make a note of this and only water when the soil is completely dry. If your pot is painted on the outside, you may notice the soil doesn't dry out as quickly. Terra cotta is an extremely porous material and naturally pulls water out of the soil and helps it evaporate more quickly. The paint does a pretty good job by itself and if it's not perfectly straight it still looks great because it looks dipped!
